New tool called XVP manager and converter has been released by VMware Labs.
With this new tool from VMware Labs you're able not only to manage Hyper-V hosts but also convert VMs running on Hyper-V to VMware format and to migrate them to vSphere Environment.
The installation is very easy. At first you must install the server part. This can be installed on vCenter Server. The second part – the XVP manager plugin – is installed on the management system as a plugin for vSphere client.
In fact If you have vSphere Client installed also on your vCenter Server, you can install both parts there. Th installation of the plugin part is done via the vSphere Client Plug-in Manager.
A quick quote from the PDF file which is included in the ZIP package when you download the XVP manager:
vCenter XVP Manager and Converter includes two components. You install a server component on its own physical server or in a virtual machine. You install a client component through vSphere Client, which you can run either on a management workstation or in a virtual machine. The vCenter XVP Manager and Converter client component is a plug‐in for vSphere Client.
The capabilities:
• You are able to manage those Hyper-V platforms:
• Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008
• Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) with Hyper-V role enabled
• Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2
• Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V role enabled
• Familiar vCenter Server graphical user interface for navigating through and managing non-vSphere inventory
• Ease of virtual machine migrations from non-vSphere hosts to vSphere inventory
• Compatiblity with VMware vCenter Server 4.0
• Scalability up to management of 50 non-vSphere hosts
As for now it's distributed through VMware labs as a Fling application. It's now 1.0 Technical Preview status. But who knows if in the future, this function can be developped even more and included in vSphere 5.0…. Who knows?
