As a big WordPress fan, I just want quickly post about this newest WordPress 3.6 release, which brings useful features to the community, and all WordPress users.
WordPress 3.6 which has a name “Oscar”, brings better auto-save, enhanced revision browser, native support for audio and video embeds, better integration with Spotify, Rdio and SoundCloud.
Especially the post revisions and the revision browser seems to me as a good thing as before, to browse within multiple revisions was only done with basic, non colored text and to spot a difference between two revisions was quite difficult. As usually, backup your WP database before upgrading to the latest release. I just upgraded, without trouble. There are many bug fixes so keep your blogs updated!
What's New in WordPress 3.6?
- New Post Revisions and revision browser – This feature enhances greatly the post revision mechanism by providing graphical interface where the post revisions are visibly showing the text which has been changed from the last post revision, with different color.
- Post Locking enhancements – when multiple people works on the same post, each author has autosave stream, where the changes are saved not only locally but also on the server side.
- New Default Twenty Thirteen Theme – single column design with excellent viewing experience on any device (smartphone, tablet). The widgets are in the footer section. Icons are font-based (Genericons).
- New HTML 5 Player – native audio and video can be embedded directly without dependency on external sources. There is a new API which handles that. Developpers can use it for example for metadata like ID3 tags.
- New UI for Menu Editor – Menu editor is easier to use with new user interface
Here is a nice video showing all the new features and enhancements. I like it.
