Yesterday's Microsoft uncovered new information about upcoming Windows 10 features. One of the good news is that Windows 10 will be free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. This is pretty big.
They give away new OS – a revolution! In addition, it seems that there will be no more new Windows as every major release will be done as an in-built update (for free too…) and new functions added in. Microsoft shifts to the Windows-as-a-service model it seems.
Note that this upgrade shall be done during the year of Windows 10 launch, and it will be absolutely free. New functions will be added to the system as they are released, so there will be no more wait for a major release in order to benefit from those.
The second announce is that Internet explorer will be replaced by a new browser called Spartan. Oh yeah. Finish all those website incompatibility issues, finish webmasters pulling themselves their hair out?
Not so fast.…IE will continue to be used and with that Microsoft's JavaScript and rendering engines….
It's not clear yet, but the W10 might show up with both Spartan and IE11 in it. Apparently yes as they want to assure the compatibility with all websites, especially those built for older IE.
However, the browser will be light-weight and akin to its rivals like Chrome and Firefox with extension support. So It shall be a faster browser…
Some advanced features of Spartan?
- Annotate by keyboard or pen directly on websites
- Reading view to have a distraction free view of the articles in a simplified layout
- Cortana integration for finding and doing things faster on web.
Cortana. What's that?
An assistant, like Siri….
Quote Wikipedia:
The name of the software comes from Cortana, the artificial intelligence character in Microsoft's Halo video game series, with Jen Taylor, the character's voice actress, returning to voice the personal assistant's US-specific version.[6] It is similar in function to Siri, which is found on Apple's iOS devices.
The cortana shall be available in W10 as in all other mobile devices by default.
Continuum
The continuum mode is already present in the current W 10 build. This is the possibility to pass from desktop mode into tablet mode whether the device detects that the keyboard has been took of. More and more laptops will provide the possibility and laptop will become a 2-in-one device. I think that my next laptop will certainly be a 2-in-1 device.
Release of Windows 10? this fall… -:) For now, the next release shall be available next week as a …. Tech preview… Stay tuned.

For those who have Xbox One will also have the ability to stream those games directly from Windows 10. This is an awesome feature and should surely increase sales of Xbox One.
