VMworld Labs.
The labs this year will be heavily using cloud infrastructure. The storage environment is mostly 10GbE. Labs are running a few levels deep – ESX nested inside of ESX with VM’s running inside. See Vinf.net blog and vTardis for more on running virtual ESXi on a cheap system. You can imagine that the infrastructure at VMworld 2010 is like … many many times more powerful…
As I read on the vinf.net blog, “The environment will be creating/destroying about 5,000 virtual machines per HOUR, and over the course of the week they expect to handle 75-100,000 virtual machine create/destroy operations.”
That's pretty massive and huge… Actually running all those virtual ESXi servers you can do a huge savings and doing a lab for VCP or VCDX study is actually a really great concept. As for now I'm using VMware Workstation for that, but can't run FT or have 64bit nested VMs….
The labs run from one of three data centers: Miami, FL (Terremark); Ashburn, VA (Verizon); and locally in the Moscone Center.
The VMworld Labs will be powered by the VMware cloud and presented via a self-service Lab Cloud portal, allowing us to increase the number of Labs offered and give you more opportunities to explore how virtualization can make a powerful impact on your organization. Unlike traditional instructor-led Labs, you are empowered not only to schedule which topics you want to take, but also when you want to take them, enabling you to choose the content that is right for your own business objectives on a schedule that allows you to maximize your conference experience.
VMworld will have more than 18,000 lab seats and conduct up to 480 simultaneous Lab sessions during the four-day event. To build out this environment, the guys has worked about 75,000+ man-hours in Lab creation and development to produce 30 Lab topics – all powered by vSphere Hypervisor, formerly vSphere ESXi. (I still have troubles to switch the names…) The Labs will cover everything from virtualized desktop infrastructure, through the vSphere-powered data center and also the VMware-powered cloud.
More than 100 VMware Subject Matter Experts on hand will answer questions and explore options, you'll get one-on-one attention when needed, and still have the flexibility to move at your own pace.
The pre-registration is not needed. With over 40 hours of available Lab time throughout the conference, you’re free to experience the latest in VMware offerings on your own schedule. See the Latest BUZZ here..
