VMware Go – Installation, Management, patching, ticketing… for Small Businesses
VMware Go is using technology which was developed by Shavlik technology before acquired by VMware. This technology is used to maintain with ease the patching of the whole environment. In fact there is a free version which name is simply VMware Go and the paid version is VMware Go Pro.
In my opinion it's a great service for small shops which does not have full-time person which manages the IT directly in-house. Usually the person “managing” the IT has other activities and duties, like accounting or so….
The VMware Go also enables you to scan your network for outdated applications and manages patches for those. In addition you can also manage your hardware assets or deploy new ESXi hypervizors or even put in place very simple web-based ticketing system for your organization.

VMware Go can not only help you easily install and configure vSphere Hypervisor but helps you manage your physical and virtual environment with free scanning for security patches, detection of hardware asset information, identification of all your software titles, and allows you to create and manage help desk tickets.
Third party patches are supported as well. The scan process shows then a results page where you can see how many machines has been scanned and there is a button you can click on to see how many missing patches there is. You'll be able to see which one of them are critical, important or other. It's possible to make an XML or PDF file as an export.
Hardware Scan – VMware Go can scan also the local network and show you the hardware inventory, and see if any of the other hardware needs patching as well.
Software Scan – you can scan the software installed on your systems, to see if there is a software patches needed to be applied. In the video you'll see that the sample system had 104 programs installed and 40 of them needed patches…… It's not limited to virtual machines, but the VMware Go can scan also physical systems.
The Go Pro functions can give your users web portal system where they can enter and create tickets. Also in the Go pro version, you can manage the licenses for your software. You're able to do an assets management on your network, create tags and group machines together to organize your environment.

The ticketing system in the pro version enables you to manage the web portals for your users, where they're able to register for the help desk system. A very simple interface, where the user can create new ticket. Can't be more simple.
