VMware has announced new VMware Certified Professional 6 – Desktop (VCP6-DT).
The new exam is for folks willing to get certified for Horizon 6 with View installed and deployed on VMware vSphere.
Horizon with View got the latest update 6.0.2 which also introduced the last drivers and agents for OS which has been faded out by Microsoft – Windows XP and Vista. So in future releases there will be no more support for those OS and those OSes are supported until the end of 2015.
Back to the new exam…
VMware Certified Professional 6 – Desktop (VCP6-DT) – What's the required path?
There are two possible paths depending if you're already certified or not:
1. Not certified – you must complete one of the two courses:
- VMware Horizon (with View): Install, Configure, Manage (V6.0)
- VMware Mirage (5.0) and Horizon View Fast track (v6.0)
2. Already VCP-level certification – you can directly go to pass the exam, but those two above courses are still recommended.
The VMware Certified Professional 6 – Desktop (VCP6-DT) validates the knowledge and skills required to implement, install and configure Horizon 6 (with View) deployed on vSphere, with the emphasis on:
- Creating and administering virtual desktops.
- Configuring and administering View, Mirage and the Workspace Portal.
- Configuring host networking and storage.
- Working with DRS, HA and other cluster-related vSphere features.

The VMware Certified Professional 6 – Desktop (VCP6-DT) certification is designed for System Engineers and Desktop Virtualization Specialists with a foundation in vSphere implementation and administration.

Concerning the support for older OS for VMware Horizon View:
VMware will fully support the 6.0.2 agent and 3.2 client on XP and Vista until the end of 2015, including with any broker updates over the next year. In other words, we will support the 6.0.2 agent on XP and Vista with newer connection servers and agents; and the 3.2 client with updates to the agents and connection servers. However, we will not be adding any new features for XP or Vista.
Note: Some older VMware exams were retired. For example VCAP5-DCA and VCAP5-DCD. So past January 31st there will be no more to have a possibility to schedule any of these exams, but you will still be able to earn the VCAP5-DCA or VCAP5-DCD certifications by passing the exams based on vSphere V5.5. Those codes for those exams are VDCA550 and (or) VDCD550.
