Full Details:
Veeam Software, innovative provider of backup, replication and virtualization management solutions for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, today announced Veeam Backup & Replication v7, taking Modern Data Protection to the next level with 2 disruptive innovations: Built-in WAN Acceleration and Backup from Storage Snapshots.
Up to 50x Faster Offsite Backup with Built-in WAN Acceleration
Built-in WAN Acceleration, which was developed by Veeam and optimized specifically for Veeam backups, copies data to offsite locations up to 50 times faster than a regular file copy.
This removes the need to purchase and deploy a general purpose WAN acceleration appliance or acquire additional network bandwidth for offsite backups.
Backup from Storage Snapshots with HP to Dramatically Improve RPO
The second groundbreaking new capability, Backup from Storage Snapshots, has been developed in partnership with HP and works with HP StoreVirtual VSA, HP StoreVirtual (LeftHand, P4000) and HP StoreServ (3PAR) to dramatically improve recovery point objectives (RPOs) while greatly reducing stress on the virtual infrastructure. As a result, IT admins can make backups as often as they want throughout the day, even for I/O intensive virtual machines (VMs).

Veeam Backup & Replication v7 includes another 7 market-changing features and more than 50 other new features and enhancements, many of which have been recently announced, including Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint, VMware vCloud Director Integration, Self-Service Recovery of VMs and Guest Files, and Native Tape Support. Quotes:
Clarence Holbrook, System Administrator, Hach Company
“Time and again Veeam Backup & Replication has proven itself invaluable. With the additional enhancement of disk to tape in Veeam Backup & Replication v7, I look forward to eliminating our costly, complex, expensive and extremely ineffective legacy tape backup solution. While the company reduces costs, I save time and prevent headaches as an administrator. Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint has already proven invaluable even in beta mode. I performed a restore in 10 minutes that would normally have taken hours. Experience has given me full confidence in Veeam Backup & Replication. To me the biggest value of Veeam is that they take the complex and make it simple. It just works!”
Ratmir Timashev, President and CEO, Veeam Software
“Data protection for too long has been a thorn in IT’s side because it has what we call the ‘3C’ problem of physical backup: limited capabilities, complexity and cost. Veeam provides organizations with powerful, easy-to-use and affordable Modern Data Protection that’s Built for Virtualization. With this latest version of our flagship software, we’re once again disrupting existing markets by including capabilities that others sell as expensive, separate components. Veeam Backup & Replication v7 removes obstacles to offsite backup with Built-in WAN Acceleration and brings to life the full potential for data protection of the virtual infrastructure.”
Jason Buffington, Senior Analyst for Data Protection, Enterprise Strategy Group
“Whether considering multi-site protection or BC/DR preparedness, one of the great blockers is the inability to move enough data across a WAN, affecting RPO/RTO goals and ultimately preventing most companies from realizing their protection goals. With continued innovations like optimized WAN transmission and its approach in leveraging hardware snapshots, Veeam continues to find new areas of evolution for their data protection solution. Couple those with tape support and granular/self-service restore capabilities and it is easy to see why Veeam continues to dominate mindshare in its segment by providing impressive recovery options for their customers.”
Robert Amatruda, Research Director Data Protection and Recovery, IDC
“Protecting the ever-increasing data volumes in virtual data centers is a high priority for any IT organization. Veeam Backup & Replication v7 provides IT professionals a comprehensive set of new tools to safeguard their data in VMware and Hyper-V environments. ”
Christian Kelly, Director of Operations, Xantrion
“We use Veeam Backup & Replication as part of our hosting and managed service offerings. The new capabilities for offsite backups will make it easier to ensure our clients are protected in the event of a disaster. Including Veeam in our service contracts is a no-brainer – the functionality meets even the most complex deployment scenarios, and Veeam’s program for service providers aligns seamlessly with our business model giving us the flexibility to deploy in our datacenter as well as at client sites.”
