Two new VMware certification exams.
VCAP will be an intermediate step you can go through before you became VCDX one day. VCAP – VMware Certified Advanced Professional. It means that there is now “in between” certification. VCP 4> VCAP > VCDX 4. An intermediate step.
That's a good news for people already holding VCP 4 exam like me, but not decided yet or not feeling like it to go for the VCDX Exam – VMware Certified Design Expert. There will not be a lot of VCDX certified people because the exam is very difficult and you need a really good lab for it….. and a lots of experience. You need to be very very strong in many areas. But by working on VCAP exam you might just put more chances on your side for the VCDX. Simon Long already announced that:
So if you pass the VCP 4, Datacenter Administrator, and Datacenter Design exams you will gain both VCAP4 certifications, and you will only be a design defense away from the VCDX4 certification.
By passing BOTH exams you can make it “easier” to became VCDX….
You can take ANY exam to became VCAP. You don't have to take both exams to became VCAP, it's more or less a job oriented selection and it's up to you which way you choose. And the good news is that there is NO obligatory vmware class. You just have to be VCP already to pretend for the VCAP. You might want to listen to this podcast where the VCAP is discussed. The VCAP administrator exam (VCAP4-DCA) will be 100% live labs exam !!! – yes, as I listened to the podcast, it's been announced that the VCAP exam will be 100% live labs. This make the exam a real life experience. You not only need a knowledge but also need to have an experience to pass that exam.

“System Administrators, Senior Consultants and Technical Support Engineers who work with large and more complex virtualized environments and can demonstrate technical leadership with vSphere technologies. Successful candidates are able to use automation tools, to plan and design virtualized solutions and to administer all vSphere Enterprise components.”

The VCAP Datacenter exam (VCAP4-DCD) will be partly multiple-choice questions and partly a design exercise.
For who?
“IT Architects and Consulting Architects who design VMware solutions in a multi-site, large enterprise environment. They have a deep understanding both of VMware core components and their relation to storage and networking as well as datacenter design methodologies. They also possess knowledge of applications and physical infrastructure, as well as their relationship to the virtual infrastructure.”

The new VCAP exam has been announced on Yahoo too…
