For those of you who start thinking about VCAP-CIA exam, which is an exam on vCloud Director – at the Datacenter Advanced Professional level. This exam is now available through VMware Education. When passing this exam, you'll automatically become VCP-Cloud certified.
VCAP-CIA stands for VMware Certified Advanced Professional – Cloud Infrastructure administration.
There is a requirements to be able to request this exam. If you're not VCP yet, you can choose from the public catalog to attend a VCP course and then pass VCP exam of your choice. Here are the exact requirements before thinking of VCAP-CIA:
- VMware Certified Professional – Cloud (VCP-Cloud)
- VMware Certified Professional 5 – Data Center Virtualization (VCP5-DCV)
- VMware Certified Professional 5 – Desktop (VCP5-DT)
Note that even if you are VCP you must first get authorized before scheduling this exam.
Note: If you use the VCP5-DT or VCP5-DCV certification as your pre-requisite, upon passing the VCAP-CIA exam you will also inherit the VCP-Cloud certification.

To keep up with VMware certifications is fairly difficult unless you choose single way and specialize yourself in for example Datacenter virtualization. Then you can start to pass VCP-DV (VMware certified professional – datacenter virtualization). For the VCAP level exam you got to pass VCAP-DCA (datacenter administration) or VCAP-DCD (datacenter design) exam. And to became architect, there is a VCDX path, which not many people achieved, because of the difficulty.
