Windows 10 release is approaching and Microsoft has released the 7 editions of Windows 10, which will be released. The W10 launch is fixed for this summer and Microsoft shall be in time. However there will no longer be future versions.
The Windows 10 will be the last Windows edition. Every other new release will be as an in place update only and the system will progress like this. No Windows 11 for example…
With that in mind, let's have a look what to expect this summer and for which usage. There shall also be quite a new version of Windows optimized for small footprint devices like ATM machines etc…
Which versions of Windows will be released?
Windows Home – this is consumer, home release, as we already know from the past. No domain attachments for those systems etc… low interest for an IT pros.. There will be Cortana, the world’s most personal digital assistant; the new Microsoft Edge web browser; Continuum tablet mode for touch-capable devices; Windows Hello face-recognition, iris and fingerprint login; and right out of the box, a broad range of universal Windows apps like Photos, Maps, Mail, Calendar, Music and Video….
Windows 10 Mobile – Optimized for touch devices and phones. Widn new universal Windows apps and Touch optimized Microsoft Office. There will also be a Continuum for mobile mode which will enable users to plugin the phone to larger screen and use it as a PC, with external keyboard etc. Similarly like Ubuntu phone.
Windows 10 Pro – Edition for Windows PCs and tablets 2-in-1 which will has extra features targetting small businesses, with remote support. This edition will be able to use Windows update for Business, which enables to control which updates, when and how. Also new innovations will get pushed in through this “update” channel.
Note that Home, Mobile and Pro editions will be free upgrade from previous release!

Windows 10 Enterprise – for enterprise customers which are on Volume licensing program. ” It provides advanced capabilities to help protect against the ever-growing range of modern security threats targeted at devices, identities, applications and sensitive company information. Windows 10 Enterprise also supports the broadest range of options for operating system deployment and comprehensive device and app management. It will be available to our Volume Licensing customers, so they can take advantage of the latest innovation and security updates on an ongoing basis.”.
Windows 10 Education – same functions as “Enterprise”, but available through academic volume licensing. So students, faculty staff, teachers will be able to use Windows Update for business as well for future upgrades, patches and new functions.
Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise – for business users using smartphones or small tablets. It is designed to deliver the best customer experience to business customers on smartphones and small tablets. It will be available to our Volume Licensing customers. It offers the great productivity, security and mobile device management capabilities that Windows 10 Mobile provides, and adds flexible ways for businesses to manage updates. In addition, Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise will incorporate the latest security and innovation features as soon as they are available.
Windows 10 IoT Core – for small footprint, low cost devices (gateways), ATMs, retail point of sale, hand held terminals, industrial robotics etc….
