VMware HCL – fist place to go.
One of the first think you should definitely check before you buy new hardware which you would like to use for VMware virtualization is the VMware HCL. What is it? VMware HCL states for Hardware Compatibility List.
The same way as you use to check the Microsoft's HCL there is a HCL for VMWare.
For ESX Server 3.5.x Systems, refer to the VMware Online Hardware Compatibility Lists to verify that your Systems, I/O Devices, and Storage System hardware is currently listed as Certified and Supported:
- HCL: Systems Compatibility Guide for ESX Server 3.5 and ESX Server 3i
- HCL: Storage / SAN Compatibility Guide for ESX Server 3.5 and ESX Server 3i
- HCL: I/O Compatibility Guide for ESX Server 3.5 and ESX Server 3i
There is a new Web-based Compatibility Guide as well. It is a replacement for the PDF format Guides. The new web-based compatibility guide can be found at: https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/
VMware HCL – How it works?
It is pretty simple. Fo example searching for a Fujitsu server HCL can give you all the necessary information you need to know before you buy.
