There is a new lab at Hands On Labs available for EVO:RAIL. It's HOL-SDC-1428 and this lab allows to play with the latest technology by VMware. If you don't already have a HOL account you can create one for free.
It's a good way to explore the different possibilities of EVO:RAIL software without having one. Pretty exciting. During the lab, you have access to the manual where you can find all the steps necessary to validate and prepare the configuration for the appliance.
The desktop of the lab has only two shortcuts and one ISO so you can upload it to the datastore once you finish configuring the EVO:RAIl appliance. There are shortcuts to Chrome browser and the second shortcut is to a notepad readme.txt file which has the login/password information.
I usually copy the password at the beginning of the lab and keep it in the clipboard. The keyboard is sometimes sticky or the keys aren't the same on international keyboards, or especially on the laptop ones.
You have 4 hours to play with the lab! You can extend 2 times if you don't have enough time to finish.
On the screen, your browser has on the right hand side the access to the manual which looks like this. It's optimized to take as less space as possible and each time you just increment the page. In the example I'm on the manual page showing the connection IP address to the EVO:RAIL appliance once it's configured…
The manual allows copy paste operations too.
Well, actually during the lab the system has detected my international keyboard and offered me to map the keyboard! Neat -;).
And here is another screen showing the lab where the simplified process of creation of VM starts after uploading the ISO which were present on the management station's desktop.
The VMware HOL gets more and more rich as VMware puts more and more courses online. The inscription is free and you only need a web browser for the navigation there. No extra plugin are necessary.
The HOL folks are doing a really good job! Gongratz.
