Today in my lab after launching VMware Workstation (v17) I had this update window pop-up, but this time things were different. After Broadcom acquisition, the product is free for personal use as you could already read in my blog post here.
However, newly, there is also an SKU so enterprises can actually also buy this product.
Unfortunately this time you cannot simply hit the update button and download directly the update from within the Workstation product, but you have to manually download the exe and install.
There are two versions at Broadcom and at first I wasn't entitled for a download, but then I realized that you have to choose the VMware Workstation 17.6 for personal use (the one which is already bundled with license).
Here are the screenshots:

and if you want to use the product within your company, you'll have to pay for a license.
From the release notes:
What's New
Introducing vmcli
vmcli is a command-line tool included with VMware Workstation Pro, enabling users to interact with the hypervisor directly from a Linux or macOS terminal, or the Windows command prompt. With vmcli, you can perform a variety of operations such as creating new virtual machines, generating VM templates, powering on VMs, and modifying various VM settings. Additionally, you can also create scripts to run multiple commands sequentially. For more information, see Using VMware Workstation Pro.
