Cyber resilience. This is something that comes to mind when you hear about ransomware and how scary it is to lose your production environment due to a ransomware attack. Well unfortunatly ransomware attacks are here to stay, so sooner or later everybody in the IT eco-system will most likely get hit. The question is: Are you enough prepared? Do you have the best weapons in place? Do you have the best ransomware protection strategy? Do you have any ransomware strategy at all?
10 years ago, the solution was to have offsite backups. Now everyone has that, but hackers find other ways to sneak-in your environment. You might simply tell yourself that a ransomware attack is for the everyone else, but it's just a matter of time when you will finally get hit too. If you're not protected enough and don't have a precise ransomware strategy then you'll most likely have problems sooner rather than later.
Commvault’s events are focusing on cyber resilience and are an unique way to be informed about the latest developments, latest strategies and protections against ransomware. It is always good to follow where the data protection trends are heading and what relevant information there is for you.
IT professionals and cyber resilience-minded CIOs are always looking for innovative ways to protect their infrastructure against threats, ransomware and other resource concerns. Commvault’s SHIFT events are an opportunity to learn the new and best ways to stay protected.

Commvault is a data protection company that helps to protect your data. Backup, recovery, ransomware protection everywhere. Your data is protected with air-gap.
Isolated Recovery – With an isolated recovery control plane, your data is not just restored. You can have a look and see what has been restored and if it’s clean. You can have people do forensics within this clean environment and inspect threads of suspect activity that have been highlighted.
Commvault Cleanroom – Commvault provides you with secure and quick recovery of applications into an on-demand CleanRoom to make sure your data is clean. This is done using a couple of different processes to determine when was your last clean restore point. For example, You can see whether the size of your data has changed dramatically between two different incrementals, or you have some massive file extension changes. (The platform is now being extended to Amazon AWS too). We have written a complete article on Clean Room here.
They also use AI/ML validation processes to detect whether your data is clean and determine your last clean restore point.
Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) enters in action in January 2025, in Europe.
And all financial organizations will have to comply. Commvault and Pure Storage are breaking new ground to ensure this level of compliance is being met.
- Protection – Fact – your organization has to be able to be protected (advanced authentication, storage encryption, and compliance locks to safeguard critical backup data). You have to have software and hardware immutability in place. Commvault and Pure Storage bring Pure SafeMode™ Snapshots and S3 Object Locking on the Pure Storage Platform.
- Detection – AI-assisted anomaly detection, and cyber deception technology
- Response and recovery – the most critical systems (payments) have to be recoverable from storage based snapshots (fastest). Commvault integrates with Pure Storage to provide rapid recovery of mission critical systems from Pure Storage Platform snapshots that leverage Pure SafeMode
Commvault and AWS
More Resilience for Amazon S3 customers – another acquisition of Clumio by Commvault, allowed the company to offer a new technology that will also brings time machine capabilities to Amazon S3 customers. In case of an attack, the system will allow S3 customers to revert rapidly back to a clean copy of data that has not been hit by ransomware.
Cloud Rewind – Earlier this year, Commvault acquired Appranix technology. This introduced a new offering called Cloud Rewind. Imagine Cloud Rewind as an AWS time machine. This cloud-native offering lets organizations “rewind” to the last clean copy of their data, recover that data, and automate the cloud application rebuild process so that businesses can get back to normal in minutes versus hours, days, weeks, or months.
Microsoft Forest recovery and change analysis – a complete solution for monitoring and protecting the entire Microsoft forest and ADs.

Final Words
Commvault continues to innovate and focus on ransomware and malware protection with automation. Their Cleanroom recovery offer is very good, so every time you ask yourself the question “where do I restore to”? Think of Commvault cleanroom. Believe me when I say that most of the time you don't have a spare datacenter nearby and ready to restore your workloads in case your main datacenter is breached. When it comes to DR and recovery plans this is a very good point. More and more workloads are hybrid and multi-hypervisor, and the trend will accelerate with Broadcom's acquisition of VMware and increase of price for VMware product licenses.
