Free tool from Paragon Software helps you migrate your OS to an SSD drive.
If you want to test the Speed of an SSD drive, you might be thinking to move your OS to that drive and try. But what tool to use? Sometimes when you buy an SSD drive you'll get a Tool for moving your OS to the SSD drive with it, which was actually my case when I bought my 1st SSD drive from Kingston. The drive came with an Acronis boot CD which could help me with the process, if I wanted to move my OS to this drive.
Paragon software does it a bit differently. The software have to be installed first on your XP, Vista, Seven machine. Then you will choose the destination disk (which will be formated in the process, so backup everything from there), and you have the possibility to exclude some of your folders from the system partition, like videos, photos, etc which are present on the boot volume. So avoiding to copy those files, you'll save some of your time in the process.
The destination disk is analyzed first to see if there is enough space to hold OS. If you're using multi boot system, you have the possibility to select the system you'll want to copy to the destination drive. And also it works for Windows 7 hidden partition too.
A little caveat is that you must not have an application installed on your DATA partition. With the path to d: Drive for example. If you do, just reinstall them to the default location which is usually c:Program Filesyour_application…. before you start the migration process.
A quick quote from Paragon:
The only action needed by the user after the migration is to configure the destination disk as the first boot device in BIOS which automatically starts the new system.
