AirVM is new company that offers cloud management solution. It can plugs into vSphere, VCD, vCNS or vCloud Air and provides you with services which aren't present in vSphere for example. Services like self provisioning portals. AirVM Cloud Management Solution allows you to create a multi-tenant environment (without vCD) where you're able to create self provisioning portals for your clients. The client can then order a VM through this self-service portal and configure the resources needed for his workflow.
I know at least one other company in the same market. If you're ESX Virtualization reader you might spotted the article about Embotics, which has a product allowing basically the same. You can check the post about Embotics Commander Here.
The AirVM company has started as a service provider company, but developed their own solution which now offers their software (built in-house) to other software providers. Their management product allows creating billing and charge back, self service portals … while still staying extremely streamlined and relatively simple. I like the way it can replace vCD and offer the same, plus even more… -:) But one would have to really take their product and do a test drive….
It's a missing piece in current VMware offering through vCD Air, which does not have a UI. The service provider and the end user can access and manage their environment, plus find even more services through those portals.
Their offering can be used not only with vCenter server, but also:
- vCenter based environment
- vCD
- vCNS
- vCloud Air
The product is API driven. It's a whole cloud management platform with orchestration, and automation and multi-tenancy. It also has the possibility to surface (through the GUI) a VM level metrics, which aren't normally visible even through VCD (it is on the demo video)…
There are some videos you can watch (it's the best). One of those is a video by Eric Sloof from VMworld Barcelona 2015.
and another video from the company website…
