New utility: Relink – upgrade packages in seconds without repackaging or rebuilding
With a recent release of vmware Thinapps 4.5 there is a new functionality called relink.
What is it? Using this utility, it is very easy to update all your ThinApp apps and (or) games to the latest ThinApp version. And so they work on Windows 7.
After installing VMware ThinApp 4.5 the relink utility can be found under C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp\relink.exe
Relink can be run against existing ThinApp packages in either .exe or .msi format and automatically upgrades them use the latest and greatest version of the ThinApp runtime and package format.
Relink accepts wildcard filenames and can work in recursive mode to upgrade all packages located under some parent directory. Relink is very handy if you have packages without associated projects and you want to upgrade them to support Windows 7.
Relink usage looks like this:
Relink automatically create a backup. The old version will be renamed to .bak. So if you want to go back to your old files you can. Just make sure you have enough disk space for 2 copies of your packages.
Currently the AppLink feature requires that both the base package and the dependency packages both be current ThinApp 4.5 packages if either is built with 4.5. Relink makes it fast and easy to upgrade any packages needed. With relink, there is no need to recapture applications that work fine on other platforms.
The relink.exe utility can use directory names to process all ThinApp files in that directory.
Exemple:
relink C:Packages
Source: Thinapp 4.5
And a great video found about entitlement of thinapped applications in Windows Active directory with a script for all users… pretty impressive, but looks really simple to put into application… -:)
This demo shows how easy it is to provision ThinApps to individual users by just adding users to Active Directory security groups.
