VMware has released vCOPS 5.8 which now allows bringing in Hyper-V and AWS together with vSphere. A truly multi-platform support. I have written a detailed article about what's new in vCOPS 5.8 already when it was officially announced during VMworld Barcelona 2013, so I won't go into many details here. VMware vCenter Operations Manager (vCOPS) 5.8 is today's post.
You can read the article here – vCOPS 5.8 – vCenter Operations Suite 5.8 Announced during VMworld 2013 Barcelona.
This article will show VMware vCenter Operations Manager (vCOPS) 5.8 Installation Video, the look and feel of the product. It is not in-depth post, but gives you a good overview what to expect.
vCOPS 5.8 do not differ much from the previous release concerning the deployment, but as I haven't documented that yet on my blog, I've recorded short video which shows how to deploy and configure vCOPS 5.8. This product is a vAPP (has 2 large VM) so it needs some attention when deploying.
Not only proper DNS and vCenter infrastructure has to be in place, but also one must setup IP pools before deploying the solution. Many vApps these days needs to have IP pools configured before deployment. Additionally, you can hook vCOPs 5.8 directly into a vCenter Log Insight.
vCOPS 5.8 brings new features:
- Hyper-V and AWS support
- SQL, Exchange supports (through management packs)
- New Storage Analytics
vCOPS 5.8 Installation Video
Note: There is no talk in the video this time as I'm without much voice at the moment…
vSphere admin with can get end to an end view to the physical storage infrastructure without the need to ask the storage guys for questions. The storage analytic shows HBAs, Fabric, and arrays through three OOB storage dashboards. Brings more information to the admin without the necessity to digging deep and gather the information by hand.
