VMware Workstation has evolved to a piece of software over the years. Recently I wrote also about sharing VMs and managing roles for accessing VMs in Workstation 10. The previous release of Workstation has brought up a different, not so known feature that might interest users of ESXi 5.5. It's the remote management of VMs running on ESXi servers (or managed through vCenter).
As you know, ESXi 5.5 and vSphere 5.5 as a platform introduced virtual hardware 10. While you can start or shutdown VMs having vmx-10 configured, you can't really do a modifications to the virtual hardware easily. You would have to install vSphere web client (together with vCenter). OR, you could to install VMware Workstation 10, which can modify (add/remove) virtual hardware, on VMs which are running on ESXi 5.5.
So you could manage all the VMs running on remote ESXi 5.5 (or), vSphere 5.5, by using Workstation instead of the vSphere web client, as the web client is still kind of slower… So you might consider VMware Workstation 10 for the job! If so, check out the coupons page where you might find a deal!
