Commvault is attending a RSA Conference 2025 in San Francisco this week and what they are showing is very innovative. For those of you who does not know anything about this conference, you might wander what to expect? In fact, the same way I've been attending VMworld (or VMware Explore) for virtualization during the last decade, RSA is the same, but for security. As security is becoming critical for many enterprises, RSA Conference is a must watch for the latest developments of software tools helping to stay secure and fight ransomware.
You can meet industry's leading companies and their experts that are presenting cutting-edge products and solutions that can help you to secure your organization. And as you can imagine, security has never been a hottest topic lately.
Commvault is present at RSA 2025 and they are showcasing their backup and recovery technology including Cloud Rewind or Cleanroom recovery (secure and quick recovery of applications into an on-demand cleanroom to make sure your data is clean), but also Minimum Viability which allows you to create a master plan which says which critical applications, assets, processes and peoples are required for an organization to deliver on their mission after an attack or disaster.
April 28-May 1, 2025, Commvault will be in San Francisco, Moscone center during RSA Conference.
What’s Commvault Cloud Rewind?
Cloud Rewind enables organizations to “go back in time” and find their data clean of all malware. The system will “rewind” to a specific point in time, allowing to recover from ransomware attacks or other data corruption incidents. Basically, you go back in time just before the incident happened.
With this technology you can rebuild your cloud environment (with dependencies and configuration) with a few clicks. It allows you to revert your full cloud environment to its last known-good state before attack.
With Cloud Rewind you get the unprecedented ability to “turn back the clock” to a point-in-time before a breach, outage, or configuration change occurred and return to business as usual.
Cloud Rewind comes from Appranix acquisition back in Apr 2024.
Cloud Rewind will be presented at Booth N-5678 in North Expo.
Commvault will also present another interesting concept/feature called Minimum Viability.
What is Minimum Viability?
Imagine Minimum viability as some kind of a super plan which tells you what is a minimum to survive a disaster or ransomware attack. A minimum viable of your critical applications, core processes, dependencies, data locations, but also people who can actually recover those data from backups etc….
Minimum viability also has recommendations what to do to recover, and to recover as fast as possible. For example, some of the recommendations are having an air-gapped copies of data with immutability or having a possibility to identify the last-known good copy of your data (clean data).
To develop such a plan, you'll need:
- View of all core processes and dependencies (recognize where they execute, where the data are located…)
- Knowing the cost of downtime for those resources.
- Clear and actionable plan to restore critical systems, data and processes.
How to Achieve Minimum Viability?
It is a 3-step process:
Step 1:
- Systems (IT infrastructure and networking, mission critical apps and communication tools, physical and cloud systems, third-party platforms and SaaS applications.
- Data (Operational data, compliance data and backup data)
- Processes (Business operations, IT and security, Customer engagement, Regulatory compliance)
Step 2:
Find out what's the impact when you're hit by ransomware. How much does it cost your company when everybody stops working? The average costs per minute of downtime is $14,056.00 People are blocked, unable to do their job.
Step 3:
Minimum viability also recommends frequently testing and simulating the recovery exercises to build confidence so you can actually restore the infrastructure, the applications and the data that are needed for your minimum viability.
When something bad happens, the recovery process has to become with stabilization of data, then start to recover identities, communication, processes, etc.
How can Commvault Help?
Commvault has certain number of software tools that helps recovering:
- Identity recovery – In cast All your identification infrastructure is down, Commvault can recover Microsoft Active Directory (AD) or Entra ID with forest-level recovery where you can recover from backups.
- Restore Communications – Backup and recovery of M365 and Google Workspace.
- Cleanroom Recovery – On-demand isolated recovery testing and forensic isolation.
- Workload protection – on-prem, cloud, hybrid. Protection of apps, DB, VMs, files, objects, SaaS apps etc.
- Air-Gapped Immutable backup storage – Store your backups within this secure environment with immutability air-gap.
- Cloud-scale recovery – Instead of running a second DR site, you can recover your critical workloads within this environment.
Rewind to the future experience
Take an other-worldly trip through the fastest, most complete recovery anywhere at Booth N-5678 in North Expo.
April 28-May 1, 2025, Commvault will be in San Francisco, Moscone center during RSA Conference.
Commvault has two booths in San Francisco where they are showcasing demos:
Commvault Cloud demos at booths #N-5678 and #N-4308 (with full platform demos) Commvault Recovery Range powered by SimSpace – the latest in cyber range experiences.
Key features include Cleanroom Recovery, Air Gap Protect, Clumio Backtrack, Threat Scan, and Risk Analysis capabilities. The presentation is scheduled for April 30 at 2:10pm PT at the Expo South Briefing Center #1400.
Commvault continue its integration with public cloud offerings and that enterprises looking to enhance their cloud resilience and data protection strategies will find solutions for their problems. With new offerings like Commvault Cloud, Cleanroom Recovery, and Air Gap Protect, and also now with Minimum Viability, Commvault is setting a new standard for cyber resilience in the cloud.
The acquisition of Clumio earlier last year (Clumio is a Platform offering cloud data security solution) further strengthens Commvault's position one of the leading actors in cloud data protection, providing enterprises with the tools they need to secure their critical data and recover quickly from any incident.
