AWS re:Invent is happening this week and we can expect to hear lots of news and announcements coming from the event. This year the conference is being held from December 2-6, 2024, across five different venues on the Las Vegas Strip: The Venetian, Wynn, Caesars Forum, MGM Grand, and Mandalay Bay.
Commvault as one of the leading providers of cyber resilience and data protection solutions will be present at AWS re:Invent 2024 exhibiting their latest innovations and best practices in cloud resilience and data protection.
One of the latest/hottest announcements comes from a company they acquired recently – Clumio. Clumio is an AWS data protection company. Their acquisition means Commvault adds a product named Backtrack to their product offering for backup and recovery for Amazon S3, DynamoDB, Aurora, RDS, EC2, and EBS.
If you are at AWS re:Invent this is worth taking a look at. Commvault has two booths there, #722 (Commvault Clean Room Experience) and #513 (Demos of Clumio Backtrack and other products).
Commvault AWS re:Invent 2024
Commvault is set to unveil several new offerings at AWS re:Invent 2024, focusing on enhancing cloud resilience and data protection for enterprises.
One of the highlights is the Commvault Cloud, a comprehensive cyber resilience platform delivered natively on AWS. This platform includes features like Cleanroom Recovery (across multiple clouds) , Air Gap Protect, and Cloud Rewind.
- Cleanroom Recovery – This feature allows organizations to test and validate their data recovery processes in a secure, isolated environment. It ensures that recovery plans are effective and can be executed without risking production data. Now with Microsoft Active Directory (AD) support.
- Air Gap Protect – This solution provides an additional layer of security by isolating backup data from the network, making it inaccessible to ransomware and other cyber threats. Customers can store copy of their data within this immutable environment which can be now AWS too. From there, they can recover the data to an isolated area – a Cleanroom. Once recovered into Cleanroom, they can use it for forensics, scan it for malware, then push those data back to production.
- Cloud Rewind – This feature enables organizations to rewind their data to a specific point in time, allowing them to recover from ransomware attacks or other data corruption incidents.
This is where Commvault comes in to improve how you restore.
The Clumio Acquisition
Commvault recently acquired Clumio, an AWS data protection company. This acquisition has allowed Commvault to expand its capabilities and provide even more robust solutions for cloud-native applications and AI workloads. Clumio's expertise in cloud data protection complements Commvault's existing portfolio, making it a powerful combination for enterprises looking to secure their cloud environments.
Clumio Bactrack automates the process of recovering the right version from the S3 buckets. Let's say you want to recover your data, and roll back-in-time to a certain point.
With Clumio Backtrack, the recovery process looks like this:
Select the S3 bucket > select the date and time > (optional) filter objects > Preview what you'll recover > Recover.
Quote from the Press Release:
Backtrack can revert billions of objects to earlier versions, radically changing how quickly and easily large-scale datasets can be rolled back – even seconds after an issue comes to light.
If you are already using S3 buckets and versioning, Backtrack can use it to recover (you don't have to start from scratch). Thousands of enterprises are already using versioning on Amazon S3 buckets and to make things even easier Backtrack reduces the costs of recovery and increases the speed as well compared to slow manual processing.
Clumio automates the recovery process of billions of objects and saves time also!
Final Words
Commvault's participation at AWS re:Invent 2024 shows that the company is tightly integrating with public cloud offerings and that enterprises looking to enhance their cloud resilience and data protection strategies will find solutions for their problems. With new offerings like Commvault Cloud, Cleanroom Recovery, and Air Gap Protect, Commvault is setting a new standard for cyber resilience in the cloud. The acquisition of Clumio further strengthens Commvault's position one of the leading actors in cloud data protection, providing enterprises with the tools they need to secure their critical data and recover quickly from any incident.
