Hmm, we're not really Friday, I know, but due to the luck of time, I wasn't able to write about the news earlier. My friends knows that atm I'm on a very important personal project (will be finished in 1-2 months). But here we go – Friday Freebie and VMware Workstation and VMware Fusion!
My long term readers knows that I've been popularizing the desktop virtualization software from VMware, since its early version. Funny enough, I discovered VMware via VMware Workstation (after trying Virtual PC, by Connectix at that time). +
Now, dear friends, homelabers, you can really save on your budget and stay legal. No more cracked copies for some, or expensive licensing for others, just to run a homelab environment on your desktop -:). VMware Workstation and VMware Fusion are FREE for home use.
- – For VMware Workstation Pro, go ahead and download from this link here:
- – For VMware Fusion Pro the link is here.
If you don't have an account, you won't be able to download. The account creation is free.
After choosing the version and the purpose of use, you get to this screen.
Even if you had an account at VMware, you have to re-register. The creation of the VMware/Broadcom account is mandatory to obtain a free license for personal use.
Here is the link to VMware Blog post where you can read why.

The most exciting part is that Fusion Pro and Workstation Pro will now have two license models. We now provide a Free Personal Use or a Paid Commercial Use subscription for our Pro apps. Users will decide based on their use case whether a commercial subscription is required.
This means that everyday users who want a virtual lab on their Mac, Windows or Linux computer can do so for free simply by registering and downloading the bits from the new download portal located at support.broadcom.com

Customers who use Fusion and Workstation at/for work require a paid commercial subscription, which can be purchased through an authorized Broadcom Advantage partner. More on that below.
For Workstation Player for Windows and Linux, Workstation Pro requires a new download and install but is licensed for Personal Use by default. You will need a customer account at support.broadcom.com to access downloads.
