VMware vCenter Server 5.0 Update 1a plus new patches for ESXi 5.0.1 fixing autostart

VMware vCenter Server 5.0 U1a has been released

VMware has released new update for VMware vCenter Server 5.0 U1. It's mainly a maintenance release. This new release introduces bug fixes and some new features especially for the vCenter Server Appliance since this one wasn't updated since vSphere 5.  The DB2 express embedded database provided with the vCenter Server Appliance 5.0 has been replaced with VMware vPostgres database. This decreases the appliance footprint and reduces the time to deploy vCenter Server further.

The download page shows many large files. There is a vSphere client update and vCenter orchestrator client update too. For the vCenter server appliance 5.0 there are special upgrade files provided.

New features introduced in vCenter Server 5.0 U1a:

• support for Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.3) database, 32bit and 64bit
• the DB2 express embedded database provided with the vCenter Appliance has been replaced with VMware vPostgres database.

Main bugfixes in vCenter Server 5.0 U1a:

• vCenter Server Web services can consume all the memory assigned to it
• HA fail to restart a VM

ESXi 5.0 U1 Patches

Now this news is not related to VMware vCenter Server update but to ESXi 5.0 Update 1.

There has been a series of patches for ESXi 5.0 released yesterday too. One of them is fixing the anoying bug which was introduced with 5.0 Update 1. The AutoStart Bug – that broke down the auto start feature in ESXi 5, has been fixed. (vSphere blog).
