New video from vKernel shows how to identify and optimize vRAM allocated to your VMs.
Even if the vRAM entitlement limit has been raised up recently by VMware, you might still need to see which of your VMs running in your VMware vSphere environment are not right sized. You have a look at vOPS Optimizer – a product from vKernel which does just that, and it can be automated and scheduled on weekly basics for example…..
The initial allocation of vRAM to your VMs might change when you install new applications and also it depends of the workload, so the configuration might change from time to time. It's quite impossible to check manually ho many VMs are not right sized or not. And especially when you creating new VMs every second day….
With the scheduling feature of vOPS Optimizer the rightsizing process can be executed during the week-end for example, since to change the RAM allocation the reboot of the VM is usually necessary (if hot add feature is not available).
Alex Rosenblat from vKernel will walk you through the process of right sizing of the vRAM with VKernel vOPS Optimizer. You can download a 30 days trial of vOPS Optimizer from vKernel's website and test it on your own.
A quick quote from the product page:
Automated VM sizing sizing can be set to make changes to shares, limits, and reservations for VMware memory and CPU which doesn't require a VM reboot, and number of CPUs and VMware memory allocations which does require a reboot. Automation can be scheduled to occur within certain maintenance windows. Additionally, reports can be emailed when automated VM sizing occurs.
